In 1921 a person identifying as Professor Weston appeared on the scene and authored a report in which he used Fourier mathematics to identify the cycles in potato prices. Apparently back in those days potato futures were a ‘thing’ on the futures market in New York.
In the late 1800s, French mathematician Fourier a plot of data (such as a chart of potato prices or such as a stock market index) could be expressed by way of a sum of cosines.
The general form of equation that Weston said would apply to price data is:
f(t) = a1cos(t) + a2cos (2t) + a3cos (3t) etc…
Weston started off his analysis by acknowledging W.D. Gann and Gann’s Master Cycle of Saturn and Jupiter. He broke the 19.86 year Master Cycle into 2 parts of 10 years each (or 180 degrees). He then divided the movement of Jupiter relative to Saturn into 18-degree increments (18,36,54,72,90,108,126,144,162, and 180 degrees). He noticed that on the NYSE there were significant trend turning points when certain of these degree separations occurred.
If one considers that in February 2011, Jupiter and Saturn were at a 180-degree separation, one need pay attention to the movement of Jupiter as it makes its way nearer to Saturn to record its 0-degree separation in November 2020.
One need also bear in mind that this was the era of ‘money for nothing’ with the Fed literally shoveling the stuff into the financial system. I have noted that this overt money printing did obscure the effects of the planets on human emotion and hence the equity markets.
The degree separations to focus on will be: 162 degrees apart, 144 degrees, 126 degrees, 90, 72, 54,36, and 18 degrees.
In early 2012 Jupiter had drawn to within 162 degrees of Saturn. As the above chart shows the S&P 500 embarked on a powerful rally higher. What astounds me is how nearly 100 years after Weston recorded his observations, here in 2012 is yet another example of the power of Jupiter and Saturn. Weston was very correct (and so too was W.D. Gann) that the markets are repetitive cycles over time.
This is the stuff that I write about in my newsletters (see me at www.investingsuccess.ca). This is the stuff that I include in my Financial Astrology Almanac each year. My goal in all of my writing is to help people take their trading and investing to a whole new level.
